H.E.Liang Yinzhu, Chinese Ambassador to Namibia Handed Over Donation from the Chinese Government to the MFA of Namibia
2007/06/28

On 27 June 2007, H.E. Liang Yinzhu, Chinese Ambassador to Namibia, handed over donated goods worth RMB 1 million yuan by the Chinese Government to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Namibia, including office furniture and equipment like computers, photocopy machines, fax machines, digital cameras and microwave ovens.

The handing over ceremony was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Namibia and attended by Deputy Foreign Minister of Namibia Hon. Lempy Lucas, Political Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Namibia Mr. Lin Jing, Director of the General Administration Office of the Embassy Mr. Shao Shiyuan, etc.

During the ceremony, Ambassador Liang said that it is known to all that China and Namibia share profound traditional friendship. Ever since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1990, the friendly relations between China and Namibia have been developing smoothly on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. China and Namibia have been learning from each other in nation building, conducting good cooperation in various fields and supporting each other in international affairs. In recent years, the friendly and cooperative relations between China and Namibia are gaining momentum, which have been tremendously pushed forward by the state visit to China by His Excellency Hifikepunye Pohamba, President of the Republic of Namibia, in December 2005 and his attendance at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in November 2006 as well as the state visit by H.E. Hu Jintao, President of the People's Republic of China, to Namibia this February. China is ready to work together with the Namibian side to promote their bilateral relations to an upper level with a broader scope. The Chinese Government is very thankful to the positive contributions made by the Namibian Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in particular, in promoting China-Namibia friendship and cooperation. Today's donation is humble in amount, but the Chinese side hopes it would be of some help to improve the working conditions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Hon. Lempy Lucas said that since the early 1960s, the Chinese government has given gracious moral and material supports to the Namibian liberation struggle under the leadership of the SWAPO Party. The Namibian people will never forget that. On 22 March 1990, one day after the independence of Namibia, China and Namibia established diplomatic relations. Since then, the two countries have signed numerous agreements in the field of politics, economy, trade, culture, education, science & technology, public health, etc, and bilateral exchanges and cooperation are expanding continuously. China has also offered Namibia a number of grants, interest-free and concessional loans. The various projects financed by the Chinese government in Namibia are yielding good results. Today's donation will greatly improve the working efficiency and effectiveness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Namibia, and she would like to extend her profound appreciation, through Ambassador Liang, to the Chinese government for its generous support. She emphasized that she believes China-Namibia relations will grow further and reach a new height in the future with the joint efforts by the two governments.

This donation was pledged by Vice Foreign Minister of China H.E. Lv Xinhua when he paid a visit to Namibia in 2005.
