2004/07/24

Visiting Namibian President Sam Nujoma said in Shanghai Saturday that more Shanghai entrepreneurs are welcome to invest and operate businesses in Namibia.

Nujoma, who arrived in Shanghai Saturday morning from Yinchuan, capital of northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, made the remark at a meeting with Mayor of Shanghai Han Zheng.

Nujoma expressed his appreciation for the changes taking place in Shanghai, and hoped to learn from its successful development.

Han Zheng briefed Nujoma and his party on Shanghai's social and economic situation, saying that Shanghai's stable economic growth is closely related to foreign entrepreneurs' investment.

Statistics show that the present economic cooperation and trade between Shanghai and Namibia continue to maintain an increased momentum. The volume of bilateral trade in the first half of this year rose 47 percent on a yearly basis.

Nujoma arrived in Beijing Monday on a 10-day working visit to China as guest of Chinese President Hu Jintao. From Thursday to Saturday he visited Ningxia.

Nujoma and his entourage, including foreign and defense ministers, are scheduled to leave Shanghai, the last leg of their China tour, on July 28.
