On December 20, 2005, Premier Wen Jiabao met with Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba. Wen made positive comments on bilateral relations. He said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties, bilateral relations have been developing smoothly with the cooperation in various areas steadily deepened. China is satisfied with the sound development momentum of bilateral relations.

Wen indicated that China deems Namibia its reliable friend and important cooperative partner in Africa and would like to further consolidate the traditional friendship with Namibia and expand bilateral economic and trade cooperation in the principle of equality, mutual benefits and common development. The Chinese government will continue offering assistance within its available resources for Namibia's economic and social development, actively participate in its infrastructure and industrial projects construction and push businesses of both sides to conduct joint venture and cooperation effectively.

When talking about the issue of the UN reform, Wen pointed out that China supports increasing the representativeness of developing nations, especially that of African countries in the UN Security Council. It is hoped that African countries will coordinate with one another to better safeguard their own unity and interest.

Pohamba said that bilateral relations have always been developing soundly and Namibia thanks for China's precious assistance for a long period of time. He noted that Namibia is committing to economic growth, especially countryside development with the efforts focused on road and railway construction and grain production. Namibia is rich in mineral, fishing and other resources, but short of exploitation capacity. Namibia hopes to conduct mutually beneficial cooperation with China in the areas of infrastructure construction and resources development through various approaches.
