Dr. Sam Nujoma Reaffirms Swapo Party's One-China Policy and Opposes Seceding China
2006/03/06

Dr. Sam Nujoma, Founding President of the Republic of Namibia and President of the Swapo Party of Namibia, said this on 1st March 2006 when he met with Chinese Ambassador Mr. Liang Yinzhu, who briefed him on recent developments on the Taiwan island.

According to Dr. Sam Nujoma, the move by the Taiwan leader to cease the functioning of the "National Unification Council" and the application of the "National Unification Guidelines" is a dangerous step towards seeking the de jure independence of Taiwan. By doing so, he has gone back on his words. This will not only cause tension across the Taiwan Straits, but seriously harm the peace and stability in Asia.

Dr. Sam Nujoma indicated that in recognition of the fact that there is only one China in the world and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China, the Swapo Party would strongly condemn the move of the leader of the Taiwan authority and reiterate its adherence to the One China policy.

Dr. Sam Nujoma reassured Ambassador Liang that the Swapo Party would support the efforts made by the Chinese Government to achieve national reunification and oppose any move aimed at seceding China. It is the Swapo Party's firm belief, according to Dr. Sam Nujoma, that any move seeking Taiwan independence by Mr. Chen Shui-bien will fail and that China is sure to be reunified.
