Namibian President Meets with Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong

On November 30, 2011, Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba met with visiting Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong in Windhoek.

During the meeting, Liu said that Namibia is China's important cooperative partner and all-weather friend in Africa. To consolidate and develop bilateral traditional friendship is an unswerving policy of the Chinese government. China is willing to work together with Namibia to further deepen the traditional friendship between the two countries, expand pragmatic cooperation and push the Sino-Namibian relations to a higher level. She said that cultural exchanges and cooperation play an important role in deepening pragmatic cooperation in all areas. In recent years, Sino-Namibian cultural exchanges and cooperation have been developing vigorously, with remarkable results. She believed the implementation of the cooperation documents signed during this visit will make a positive contribution to deepening the Sino-Namibian friendship.

Pohamba spoke highly of substantial development of bilateral ties since the establishment of diplomatic relations, and appreciated China's long-term material and technical assistance. He said over the years the two countries have always maintained close high-level exchanges and their friendly cooperation in various fields has been advancing in an all-round manner. Both sides also share the same position and support each other on major international and regional issues. Namibia is ready to work with China to deepen practical cooperation in a wide range of areas including economy, trade, energy, culture, education, science and technology, strengthen cooperation in international affairs and push forward bilateral ties.

On the same day, Liu Yandong also announced that the Chinese government decided to establish a trust fund at UNESCO between 2012 and 2015 to support educational development projects in African countries.
