Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks in Windhoek Thursday with his Namibian counterpart, Utoni Nujoma, on bilateral friendly relations.

During their talks, Yang said that China attaches great importance to its ties with Namibia and stands ready to make concerted efforts with Namibia to implement the consensus reached by leaders of the two nations on further advancement of their relations, cement their traditional friendship and promote political trust.

To strengthen China-Africa friendly cooperative relations is an important bedrock of China's foreign policy and a long-term strategic choice, said Yang.

China is willing to work with African nations, including Namibia, to make preparations for the fifth ministerial meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to be held in China later this year and further promote the development of the new-type China-Africa strategic partnership, said the Chinese foreign minister.

Nujoma, for his part, said that China enjoys a special status in the hearts of African people.

The two countries have made steady progress in their cooperation, which has exerted a positive effect on Namibia's socioeconomic development, he said.

The Namibian government will firmly adhere to the one-China policy and is committed to mutually beneficial cooperation with China in a broad range of areas, such as politics, economics and trade, culture and infrastructure, said Nujoma. He expressed the hope for more Chinese investment in Namibia.

They also exchanged views on international and regional affairs of common concern. Yang arrived late Wednesday for an official visit to Namibia.
