Dr. Sam Nujoma, former president of Namibia, met with Chen Bingde, member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and chief of general staff of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) who was visiting Namibia, in Ottavi on the morning of May 25.
Nujoma said that the Chinese people gave firm support to Namibian people when they sought national liberation. Since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Namibia and China, the two countries have carried out extensive co-operation in political, economic and military fields. The Namibia-China co-operation serves as a paradigm of the South-South Cooperation. In future, the two countries should further strengthen personnel contact at various levels and deepen co-operation in all fields.
Nujoma thanked China for its assistance to Namibian economic development and congratulated China on its rapid economic development in recent years and the successful opening of the Shanghai World Expo not long ago.
Chen Bingde conveyed President Hu Jintao's cordial regards and good wishes to Nujoma. Chen said that His Excellency is an old friend and good friend of the Chinese people, is all along committed to developing the Sino-Namibian relations, actively boosts the co-operation in all fields between the two sides and has made important contributions to the development of the relations between the two countries and the two militaries. The Chinese side is willing to work together with the Namibian side to strengthen the exchange between the young generations, carry forward the friendship established by the old generation of leaders and solidify and develop the friendly cooperative ties between the two countries and the two militaries.
Wei Fenghe, chief of staff of the Second Artillery Force (SAF) of the PLA, Cai Yingting, chief of staff of the Nanjing Military Area Command (MAC) of the PLA, and Ai Husheng, chief of staff of the Chengdu MAC of the PLA, from Chen Bingde's party, Zhang Yiming, chargé d'affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Namibia, and relevant leaders of the Namibian Defense Forces were present at the meeting.
