Handover of the Chinese Government Aided Project of Presidential Residence

On July 13th, 2010, a handover ceremony of the Chinese Government aided Project of Presidential Residence was held, during which H. E. Ambassador Wei Ruixing handed over the “key” to H. E. Mr. Hifikepunye Pohamba, President of the Republic of Namibia.

In his remarks, Ambassador Wei said that China values its friendly relations with Namibia and the Chinese Government always attaches great importance to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. As a developing country, China not only cares about its own economic and social development, but also that of Namibia and other developing countries. In the past years, the Chinese Government has done its best to provide aid assistance to Namibia with the implementation of a series of projects, including this Project of Presidential Residence. The ambassador pledged that the Chinese Government will continue to do so within its own capacity to help Namibia in its economic development and social undertakings.

President Pohamba spoke highly of the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries, and thanked the Chinese Government for its continuous support and assistance to Namibia over the years, which helped Namibia in its economic and social development. He commended the Chinese Government on its funding and constructing the Presidential Residence, which, he said, is a historic gift to the people of Namibia and another symbol of Namibia-China friendship. The President said that Namibia will take good care of the Presidential Residence and make it go for a long time.

Among the guests at the ceremony were Founding President H. E. Dr. Sam Nujoma, Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Nahas Angula, Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Dr. Theo-Ben Gurirab, Chairman of the National Council Hon. Asser Kapere, Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Marco Hausiku, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Loide Kasingo, Governor of Khomas Region Ms. Sofia Shaningwa, Cabinet Ministers and Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretaries and officials from relevant government departments.
